Messiah's Triumph
The Messiah standing on the head of the serpent is a long-attested theme in art history. It is based upon Genesis and the Gospels of the Bible. Speaking of the serpent, a spiritual deceiver, it was written:
“And I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her seed;
He shall bruise you on the head,
And you shall bruise him on the heel.”
(Gen. 3:15)
Little did anyone expect for God Himself coming as the one to be bruised and die in order to crush the power of destruction.
Subduing the Adversary
The devourer is also a theme with a long history in art.

Peter, a fisherman who followed Jesus later wrote:
​
"Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world. After you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen and establish you. To Him be dominion forever and ever. Amen." - 1 Peter 5:8-11

Crown
The Crown is an old theme in Western Art History. This work shows the two crowns worn by the Messiah. At first He came as the suffering servant. After giving His life as a sacrifice for the sins of the world, Jesus said that he will return again as conquering King, ushering in a new administration of justice and peace. In the meantime, peace begins in the hearts of those who long for an allow for His rule. God is love, and we become like what we worship. We too often follow this path, suffering and dying to self helps us to conquer ourselves in His power, freeing us to love God and others.

Heart Beat
Gold is the metal of divinity in ancient art. This work is deeply personal in that it is my desire that my heart beat with kindness, humility, compassion, forgiveness, patience, meekness, and longsuffering. These things are not my nature but we become like what we worship. God is all of these things and more.
